Energy transition review (literature)

Climate change is one of the key challenges facing humanity. Different technologies and their various areas of application are the subject of controversial debate around the world under the collective term “energy transition“.

It should be noted that none of the technologies, e.g., electromobility, hydrogen production from renewable energies, storage, conventional energy sources, or even the adapted electrical infrastructure, are really new to this transformation process.

Some examples

  • Solar hydrogen project 1983 in Neunburg vor dem Wald, Germany
  • First-occupied wind-powered plant for electricity generation, 1883, Austria
  • The history of the electric car begins with Anderson, 1832, United Kingdom
  • First extra-high-voltage substation without SF6, Obermooweiler substation, 2019, Germany
  • The world’s first energy-self-sufficient apartment block, 2017, Switzerland
  • Climate and environmental protection articles since the 1970s

Why is the energy transition not working despite decades of talk? Is it human ignorance about the complexity of the energy transition, greed of profit, ignorance or why do we have such different levels of knowledge about technological progress?
